Our Final Edition of DIY Pet Costume Series!

DIY Pet CostumeOur final DIY Pet Costume Series will focus on last-minute costumes for your pet! Whether you have procrastinated getting a costume together, or have just decided to attend a pet event, here are some quick and low-cost ideas for your pet!

I have two words for you. Dollar Tree. Or Dollar General. Or Family Dollar. Dollar stores are a mecca of lightweight costume pieces perfect for your dog or cat!

DIY Pet CostumeOne of the cutest things my dog, Cheyanne, has worn is the simple fairy costume I bought from a dollar store. The wings fit her perfectly, as did the fluffy skirt! The crown is a princess party favor that I attached a pink flower to. I also used a small party favor jack-o-lantern pail to her collar for trick-or-treating. Aside from the crown, which I only put on for pictures, she did not mind this costume at all.

I took a few pictures of costume pieces that you can find this year. Whether your pet wants to be a pirate, fairy, ninja, princess, or any number of other fun characters, you can find these things in a quick trip to the dollar store.

ARF of Nichols Hills Pooch Parade – Oct. 30th – 11:30am

Animal Rescue Friends of Nichols Hills will host its annual Pooch Parade on Sunday, October 30th. In honor of its 20th anniversary, A.R.F. has decided to eliminate the usual competition event and offer prizes to all parade participants. Everyone (and dog) is encouraged to dress up in their Halloween/ MardiGras best, style up that stroller, trick up that bike and treat the family and their best furry friends to a fabulous fall afternoon in Grand Park.

Father John Marlin will offer a dog blessing at the start of the Parade at 1:00 pm. Nick Bentley will be serving as our Master of Ceremonies and Dr. Summer Heatly will hold well-checks in her mobile veterinarian clinic. Other activities include Candid Canine Camera courtesy of Zack Seat and Laure Anderson’s “kissing booth” sponsored by Milos Rescue. Everyone will wag to the live tunes of ZUZU Petals as they shop with vendors offering various dog items or snag a delicious treat from a selection of food trucks. We would be delighted to welcome cheer or dance groups who would like to add to the fun and strut their stuff.

All participants (on four legs or two) in the Parade will pay an entry fee of $15 and we ask all Pups to remind their people that leash etiquette must be observed. We know our BFF’s will all get along on this Neutral Ground, but we wouldn’t want them to lose their people in the excitement of the day. Paws-itively everyone and their dog will be there!

A.R.F. is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to helping lost or abandoned animals, providing them with medical care, spay/neuter services and boarding until they go to their new forever home. A.R.F. has found loving homes for more than 1080 dogs and cats over its lifetime. The Pooch Parade is the annual fundraising event that supports this work. Sponsorships or donations are greatly appreciated.
