Blue Pearl Specialty and Emergency

Picture a gleaming new hospital with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and specially designed surgical suites, filled with board-certified clinicians ready to perform everything from cataract removal to knee surgery.

Sounds like the hospital you’d visit if you needed medical treatment, right? But this one is strictly for patients of the four-legged variety.

In January, BluePearl Veterinary Partners hospital moved from its current location into a brand new 18,500-square-foot facility at 1401 W. Memorial Road.

The move allowed BluePearl to merge its surgery and emergency services, which were previously housed in separate buildings. Those facilities, located at 1800 W. Memorial Road and 13551 N. Indiana Ave., closed when the new hospital opened.

To celebrate, the hospital is holding an Open House from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. The event will feature food trucks and games, as well as tours of the new hospital.

For those who haven’t visited BluePearl, it’s a pretty remarkable place. This isn’t where your pets go for routine care. It’s more like a Mayo Clinic for animals – an advanced medical facility where dogs and cats are treated by skilled oncologists, ophthalmologists, emergency clinicians, internal medicine specialists and more. It’s open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to handle any emergency situation a pet might encounter.

BluePearl operates by referral, which means their doctors partner with primary care veterinarians to develop the best treatment plans for each patient. This respect for the bond between patient, pet parent and family veterinarian have earned BluePearl a reputation for excellence.

Every day, BluePearl’s board-certified specialists and emergency clinicians perform complex procedures once reserved for human medicine. These include chemotherapy and radiation therapy for cancer, knee surgeries and cataract removal.

“Pets are members of our families, and we have all come to expect a higher standard of medical care for them,” said Dr. Jeff Studer, medical director for BluePearl in Oklahoma City. “We’re thrilled that our new hospital will help us provide even better care to pets in our community.”

The new BluePearl hospital will have space for an expanded intensive care unit (ICU) and a greater number of examination rooms. It will also feature many of the same equipment found in human hospitals, including an MRI, a CT scanner, ultrasound, digital radiography and more.

In addition, the hospital will have kennels that will keep pets safe in case of a tornado – a major concern when you’re located in a place like Oklahoma City.

But what makes BluePearl truly special is the people who work there, said Rachelle Belanger, practice manager for BluePearl in Oklahoma City. Every single person – from the friendly people behind the front desk to the veterinary technicians and clinicians – has a passion and a dedication for helping pets.

“We know kindness and compassion is the real foundation of veterinary medicine,” said Belanger. “That’s why we always take the time to hug a frightened pet or make an extra phone call to a worried pet parent. We love pets, and that enthusiasm shows in everything we do.”

BluePearl also has deep ties to the community, and has developed strong relationships with local pet rescue groups. The hospital is also proud to provide training and care to K-9 units of local law enforcement agencies, including the Oklahoma City Police Department.
