Full Description

Pic 1Edmond Animal Welfare is a unit of the Edmond Police Department. Our responsibilities include answering calls for service regarding animals in the City of Edmond as well as operating the municipal animal shelter.

To provide a public safety service to both the human and animal residents of the City of Edmond and to find great homes for great unwanted animals.

The goals of Edmond Animal Welfare are to help ensure the safety of both people and animals as they relate to each other. Edmond Animal Welfare Officers respond to calls for service from the public for just about any animal related situation. Animal Welfare Officers enforce both State and Municipal laws/ordinances which pertain to animals. The Edmond Animal Shelter houses stray and unwanted animals that originate within the corporate city limits of Edmond. Animals which meet certain criteria are made available for adoption through the Shelter.

The Edmond Animal Shelter considers itself a low-kill facility. As a municipal shelter, we do not have the luxury of choosing what animals to take in – as long as they originate from within the corporate city limits of Edmond, we must take them in regardless of their behavior or health.
Animals that are determined to be “adoptable” are held indefinitely until they find a forever home.

Great dogs and cats are always available for adoption at the Edmond Animal Shelter! Animals are evaluated for behavior and health prior to being made available for adoption. All adoptable animals have been spayed or neutered, received all age-appropriate vaccinations and dogs are heartworm tested. The fee to adopt an animal from the Shelter is only $25.00! The process entails coming to the shelter, finding an animal you like, and filling out an adoption application. The shelter is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10am until 6pm; Saturdays from noon until 4:30pm; and Sundays from 1pm until 4:30pm. The shelter is closed on most holidays.Residents of the City of Edmond (as verified with a City of Edmond utility bill) may relinquish animals to the shelter for a fee of $10.00. Stray animals found within the corporate city limits of Edmond may be brought to the shelter free of charge. We will not accept animals that are found outside of the city limits of Edmond because we simply do not have the space or resources to do so.
