Holiday Lights Spectacular
Looking for a pet-friendly outing? Bring your leashed pups to “Light the City” on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, and stroll through twinkling lights with music, hot cocoa, crafts, Santa and even the Grinch! Don’t forget to bring bags to clean up after your furry friends. From Dec. 2-28, the lights continue as a drive-through experience, perfect for enjoying the holiday magic from the car (with an adjacent dog park available for potty breaks).
Dog treats are handed out to pets to enjoy while viewing the holiday lights, making the event extra special, says Heather Lackey, special events coordinator for Midwest City. “For the dogs who come back multiple times, they recognize us and get so excited; they know they’re getting their treats. It’s just so much fun.”
Baking up Holiday Cheer!
’Tis the season to spoil your four-legged friends! These simple, tasty recipes are guaranteed to get tails wagging — and they’re a fun way to make sure your furry family members share in the holiday cheer.
Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Holiday Dog Biscuits
Yields: About 24 biscuits
Ingredients
1 cup whole wheat flour (or oat flour for sensitive tummies)
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup canned pumpkin (unsweetened)
1/4 cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix pumpkin, peanut butter and egg until smooth.
Gradually stir in flour, oats and cinnamon to form a stiff dough.
Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thick.
Use cookie cutters to cut into festive shapes (bones, stars, trees).
Place on baking sheet and bake 20-25 minutes, until golden and firm.
Cool completely before serving to your pup. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
Tip: Add a little pureed sweet potato or carrot for extra color and holiday flair!
Salmon & Pumpkin Holiday Cat Treats
Yields: About 20 small treats
Ingredients
1 can (3 oz.) salmon, drained and flaked
1/4 cup canned pumpkin (unsweetened)
1 cup oat flour
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon dried catnip (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, mix salmon, pumpkin and egg until smooth.
Gradually stir in oat flour and catnip to form a soft dough.
Roll into small 1/2-inch balls and place on the baking sheet.
Flatten slightly with a fork or your fingers.
Bake 12-15 minutes, until firm and lightly golden.
Let cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
Tip: Add a pinch of dried parsley for a little holiday “green” sparkle that’s safe for cats.
