Urban Dog House, at 4315 Southwest 119th Street in Oklahoma City, is a
new local boarding facility looking to provide metro-area dog owners with peace of mind while they work or travel by offering a variety of boarding and day-care options.
Opening in March 2021, Urban Dog House, owned by Corey Givens and his wife, Lindsey, just celebrated its first birthday. The owners describe their first year in business as “exciting, busy, and most of all, fulfilling.” Both of them were raised with dogs, and they have three of their own fur kids at home, so venturing into a dog-focused business was a natural next step for their family. Before opening Urban Dog House, the couple often took their dogs to day care and boarded them as needed.
“The joy our dogs would show when we said the words day care was indescribable. They couldn’t get in the car fast enough, and the drive there was spent telling you all about it,” said Givens. Knowing he and his wife could give this experience to other dog owners in the area, they combined all their professional skill sets and knowledge about dog ownership. When an opportunity came up for Givens to open Urban Dog House, he jumped at the chance and knew it was right for him and his wife to create Urban Dog House.
“We wanted to provide other families and their dogs a fun, safe, and loving environment, one where their dogs receive the same unconditional love that their owners continually show them,” Givens said. That
is exactly the type of environment that Urban Dog House provides, and it also offers a wide variety of services, showing how thoughtful the owners were with the inception of the business.
For example, for people who are scared of trimming their dogs’ nails, Urban Dog House can help with that. Services include day care, boarding, baths and grooming packages, dog training, and even dog birthday parties — truly giving pet parents a onestop resource for many of their dogs’ needs.
Calling All Breeds
All dog breeds are allowed to attend Urban Dog House because the owners believe all dogs should be treated based on their temperament, not their breed. They explain that the way their process works is making sure the dog is a right fit for the day-care environment and has a friendly temperament with handlers and dogs and making each dog comfortable and secure interacting with other pups. That process allows for the safety of the staff and the dogs who attend day care and boarding. The dogs receive tons of love and attention from the staff because the most important mission of Urban Dog House is to make the dogs feel loved, secured, and happy. “The dogs, of course, are hands down the best part of this job,” the owners explain, remembering their first major holiday weekend, Memorial Day 2021, and how happy they were to have their boarding kennels (which are cage free and so comfortable) filled to the brim with wagging tails.
“When we got there in the morning, the dogs were jumping for joy and so happy we were there! Can you even imagine? A large
amount of barking, happy, excited dogs all ready for you to let them out so they can love on you and play and start their day! The feeling is so fulfilling when you are with them,” Givens said.
A Love for Dogs
The love the owners have for the dogs in their care and for Urban Dog House in general shines brightly. Looking up the facility online will highlight a plethora of positive reviews from happy pet parents who frequent Urban Dog House for boarding or day care.
One of the client reviews shared by the owners shows just how thorough and well rounded the day-to-day operations at Urban Dog House are. It reads, “They always do great with our dog! He loves to come here, we have boarded him here as well, and he also goes to day care quite often! They require that all the dogs have their shots up to date, and when you do board
your dogs, you know they’re not just going to be left in a cage all day while the other dogs play. Your dog gets to enjoy its time with the other dogs and the great staff!”
It’s all about the dogs and their comfort and happiness at Urban Dog House. Its owners recall the reason they opened the facility and put it quite simply: “Dogs are very special animals. They are sensitive beings that show unconditional love and are always there for you, whether it is to mourn a sad time or celebrate an exciting time. They are family members, very important ones at that. They should have a place to go where they get the same love and care that they get at home — that is why we created Urban Dog House.”
